Who is She?

By Bhawna Sharma
She smiles; she hides,

She looks just fine,

But what she veils,
Is a fine mystery.
Her head and heart are lions thrown at play,

Never at peace with one another

Howling inside, how still can she stay?

I wanted to run errands to cure her pain,

Do your chores they said

Wash the dishes they said

It’ll get better they said

But who heard them?

A hopeless; helpless; wreck

Like a left out damaged pearl.
She dabbed the cut with cotton wool,
Wrapped it within jarred smiles and left for smaller steps to take.

The scars flared up again,

When I realised, it was me feeling the pain.
But what could I do?

The bandages were too tight.

And all I could do, was smile.

and smile.

The tears I hide,
Can’t remain inside.
I let my eyes cry until they want,
To get out the memories which still haunts.
