CAVEAT/WARNING : The Godfather is essentially not a movie for the faint hearted.
If you watch it, expecting to see mushy fluff in the manner of Sirius Black in Harry Potter, you will be sorely disappointed.
Based on a book with the same name, Mario Puzo’s theatrical classic is a true spectacle. The plotline brought to life, by the cinematic legends of Al Pacino and Marlon Brando, warmed the cockles of my Mafia loving heart!
What The Godfather has done, is revolutionize the way we see crime thrillers. Typical good guy bad guy stories are many.
This is one movie where there is no good guy but the bad guy is so freakishly alluring that you sub consciously side with him!
The deep throated Italian and his many shenanigans never make you judge him morally. You admire and even try to ape the baritone and gait of a certain Don Corleone.
Bollywood has attempted to imitate The Godfather in the form of Sarkar and Sarkar Raj but while they are excellent movies in their own right, they barely pass muster in recreating the original. The Godfather can safely be included in the list of movies which will forever go down in the annals of history as a benchmark for perfection. The reasons why you can’t afford to miss The Godfather are:
1. BEST MAFIA THRILLER TILL DATE
This is the coolest piece of cinema on Mafia families. Ever fantasized what it is like to be Dawood Ibrahim? It’s only better.
2. BEST ACTORS
Al Pacino and Marlon Brando sharing screen space. Need I say more?
3. ITALIAN LOVE
You have got to adore the delightful accents and mouth-watering food here. Crazy Italian traditions will have you sleeping with the fishes!
If you’ve read the book and loved it, won’t you be dying to watch the movie?
5. THAT 70s FEEL
The movie released in 1972, giving you just the right vintage feels.
6. NEW AGE VILLAINY
It’s all about re-inventing the traditional villainous characters and making them more attractive than the holier-than-thou heroes.
7. BECAUSE I MADE YOU AN OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE
*Insert deep throaty, Marlon Brando-ish, persuasive voice*
